The Silent Thief of Time in Islam
Time is one of Allah’s greatest blessings. Every second is a trust from Allah and every person will be questioned about how it was spent. Today, many Muslims unknowingly waste countless hours on WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and other social media through gossip, meaningless conversations, unverified messages and endless scrolling.
The Quran Reminds Us That Time Is Precious
Surah Al Asr 103 verses 1 to 3
“By Time. Indeed, mankind is in loss. Except those who believe, do righteous deeds, encourage one another to the truth and encourage one another to patience.”
This surah teaches that success comes from using our time for faith, good deeds and beneficial actions.
The Quran Warns Against Vain Talk
Surah Al Mu’minun 23 verse 3
“And those who turn away from idle and useless talk.”
A Muslim should avoid conversations and activities that have no benefit in this world or the Hereafter.
The Quran Warns Against Gossip and Backbiting
Surah Al Hujurat 49 verse 12
“And do not backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother You would hate it.”
Sharing gossip, rumours and exposing the faults of others are serious sins, whether spoken or shared on social media.
The Quran Warns Against Spreading Unverified News
Surah Al Hujurat 49 verse 6
“If a sinful person brings you news, verify it, lest you harm people out of ignorance.”
Before forwarding any WhatsApp message or social media post, Muslims should first verify that it is true.
The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم Said
“Among the signs of a person’s good Islam is leaving what does not concern him.”
Hadith
Sunan al Tirmidhi 2317
This teaches Muslims to stay away from useless discussions and unnecessary involvement in matters that do not benefit them.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also said
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.”

Sahih al Bukhari
Sahih Muslim

Ask Yourself Before You Share
Is it true
Is it beneficial
Will it please Allah

If the answer is no, it is better not to share it.
Final Reminder
Money can be earned again.
Health may improve.
Time can never be recovered.
